What does IPL laser treatment do?
Intense Pulsed Light (or IPL) effectively rejuvenates your skin by targeting specific skin cells responsible for a number of very common skin concerns. It also increases cellular turnover and upscales the production of collagen.
What are the benefits of IPL laser treatment?
– decreases redness and improves the appearance of broken capillaries
– improves irregular skin pigmentation, bringing your skin closer to its natural even tone
– stimulates the production of collagen, leading to stronger overall skin
– improves the appearance of pores
– improves and revitalises sun-damaged skin
– laser hair removal
Laser treatment with the Lumenis M22 can treat all areas of the face, neck, decolletage and hands. Body treatments are also possible.
How does IPL laser work?
IPL works by sending very controlled, highly specific and very intense pulses of light into the skin.
The different wavelengths travel to different depths where they are absorbed by their target skin cells and not surrounding tissues – so it’s a highly targeted treatment.
The specifically targeted cells absorb the intense pulsed light and are damaged. This process causes them to be resorbed into the body or transferred to the top layer of the dermis where they slough away leaving a newer, stronger skin.
IPL treatment also stimulates the cells that produce collagen, increasing the strength of your skin.
What results can I expect from a laser treatment?
You can expect rejuvenated, stronger, healthier-looking skin with a more even appearance.
Redness and broken capillaries will greatly reduce in appearance. This makes it a very popular treatment across the nose, chin, and cheeks, all of which can be treated individually or in a full-face treatment. People suffering from Rosacea will see a dramatic overall improvement in their redness.
Areas of pigmented skin will see an improvement in tone, and skin texture will improve thanks to the exfoliating power of IPL. Sun-damaged skin will be given a new lease of life.
What does an IPL laser treatment involve?
You will have a pre-treatment consultation with a laser specialist to assess your suitability and discuss the best program. A patch test will be performed before any treatment.
Sessions last 30-60 mins, depending on the areas being treated – so it’s quick and easy.
A standalone treatment will see results, but 3-4 treatments are always recommended.
Single sessions can then be performed as a means of maintenance.
Does IPL laser treatment hurt? Is there downtime with IPL?
Aside from a little bit of heat, no is the answer. Ultrasound gel is applied to the skin to help with the heat.
In terms of downtime, you may experience some redness and a tingling sensation, but these resolve quickly in most cases.
You must avoid the sun before and after treatment as this will make you more prone to complications and longer recovery time.
Comprehensive after-care instructions will be provided to you by your laser specialist.
When will I see the results? How long do laser results last?
Results will be seen within a week and will improve as you move through your course.
Results are patient-dependent and also depend on the condition of your skin to start with and what indication you are looking to address.
Your laser specialist will discuss this with you in depth at your consultation.
