At Amara, medical microneedling with Rejuvapen is one of the most effective tools we have to promote collagen growth and elastin production.
Microneedling is the number one tool when tackling dull, lifeless and inelastic skin. The importance of collagen and elastin as structural components of your skin cannot be underestimated which is makes microneedling the go tool treatment option when addressing multiple skin concerns including acne scarring.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a treatment used to address multiple skin concerns by stimulating the body’s natural healing responses. As its name suggests, a series of small needles are used to perforate your skin in a safe and controlled manner. As a result, treatment with Rejuvapen, our microneedling tool of choice, causes your skin to produce collagen and elastin which greatly improves your skin’s appearance in a number of ways.
How does microneedling work?
Rejuvapen works by puncturing the very top layer of your skin with tiny (micro) needles to induce your body’s natural repair mechanisms. This kickstarts the production of collagen (strength and structure) and elastin (skin elasticity) as a response to the treatment.
Microneedling perforates the skin in a very precise way. Depth, spacing and angle are all highly controlled so the treatment is very structured. The micro perforations are invisible to the eye but detected by the body’s repair systems. Once detected, the body shifts natural repair systems up a gear and production of collagen and elastin begins. This response is completely natural, it’s just that Rejuvapen induces it.
What is microneedling for?
Rejuvapen effectively addresses multiple skin concerns. It is a powerful tool for addressing:
|Pore size||Acne scarring|
|Fine lines and wrinkles||Sagging and loose skin|
|Hyperpigmentation||Dull, lifeless skin|
What does microneedling feel like? Does Rejuvapen hurt?
Clients describe the sensation as similar to that of fine sandpaper vibrating like an electric toothbrush against their skin. A topical anaesthetic is applied to the skin and allowed to take effect before the procedure which means patients describe it as very tolerable.
What should I expect from my microneedling results?
The stimulation of collagen and elastin production has a regenerative effect on many common skin concerns:
|Improves pore structure and stability lessening the chances of clogging and blockages associated with acne, breakouts and blemishes|
|Improves the appearance of acne scarring by stimulating collagen and elastin to compensate deficiencies in scars formed due to acne damage|
Fine Lines and Wrinkles
|Restoring lost collagen and elastin smooths out fine lines and wrinkles|
Sagging and Loose Skin
|Sagging and loose skin is caused by loss of structure and elasticity, the two thing Rejuvapen provides.|
|The improved circulation and regenerated tissue greatly diminishes the appearance of hyperpigmentation|
Dull, lifeless skin
|Promoting natural skin regeneration is the perfect way to rejuvenate dull and lifeless skin|
|Increasing the levels of collagen and elastin in the skin can improve stretch marks|
|Improves the appearance of skin scarring through the stimulation of collagen and elastin which compensates for scar deficiencies|
When can I expect to see results?
A single Rejuvapen treatment will yield results with the skin looking healthier immediately (after the redness from the treatment has resolved – see below). However, Rejuvapen is not a wonder treatment. If your skin has had a problem for some time, we cannot expect a single treatment to reverse all of the issues. You can’t go to the gym once and expect a toned stomach.
Skin regeneration is not an instant process and does take time.
At your consultation our skin specialists will give you a more realistic timeline but for most people we recommend 5 sessions with the final results being seen at between 4 and 6 months.
What is the downtime after a microneedling treatment?
This depends on the severity of the skin damage inflicted which is a needle depth issue which itself is determined by what you’re trying to correct.
There will be redness much like sunburn and this will persist for 24-48 hrs, possibly even 72-96 hrs for more sensitive skin types. Other patients skin may resolve in 24 hrs.
There is very light bleeding. Sometimes there may be some very light bruising, but this is unusual at Amara.
We will insist you wear a good SPF and stay out of the sun following your treatment.
As a general rule you should be prepared to face some down time. Our skin health specialists will help you time your treatments accordingly to minimise the impact of this on your life.
What’s the difference between Rejuvapen and other microneedling?
What sets Rejuvapen apart from other microneedling treatments available today is the level of control it gives our skin specialists. If our skin specialists have more control, they can adapt your treatment to get you the best possible results. At Amara, we’re a results based clinic which is why we selected Rejuvapen ahead of all other microneedling technologies available today.
