What is Profhilo and How Does it Improve Skin Quality?

As we age, our skin undergoes various changes, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of elasticity. In the quest for youthful, radiant skin, Profhilo has emerged as a popular treatment. Profhilo now available in our Dublin’s clinic!

Profhilo is a unique injectable treatment designed to address skin aging concerns, particularly skin laxity and hydration. It is composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps maintain moisture and elasticity in the skin. Profhilo is different from traditional dermal fillers as it spreads beneath the skin rather than adding volume or structure to specific areas. It stimulates collagen and elastin production, resulting in improved skin texture, firmness, and hydration.

While it is made from stabilized Hyaluronic acid, it is new technology that is different to that which you might find in the Juvederm Vycross range of fillers. Profhilo is not about definition, or adding volume like a traditional dermal filler – it is about increasing the production of structural components of our skin which deplete with age; collagen and elastin.

The key here is the way it is formulated: it is highly concentrated and designed to stimulate collagen and elastin production within the skin over long periods of time. The HA in it also draws and retains water, hydrating your skin over very long periods of time. This is why it is often referred to as an “Injectable Moisturizer”.

So while it may look like a filler, and while it might be a cosmetic injection, it does very different things to anti-wrinkle injections and fillers.

Profhilo is all about your skin quality, texture and elasticity. Read Less

I work in a client-facing job so I am always concerned about looking overdone or having bruises. Amara are very aware that this is a concern for a lot of people and it's why I choose them. It's also nice that I always see other men getting treatments whenever I'm there.

Profhilo: Frequently Asked Questions

After Profhilo injections, avoid touching or applying makeup on the treated areas for at least six hours. Also, avoid strenuous physical activity, excessive sun exposure, saunas, or steam rooms for 48 hours. Mild redness, swelling, or bruising may occur at the injection sites but typically resolves within a few days. It is important to follow any specific aftercare instructions provided by the medical professional who performed the treatment.

Profhilo is injected into the deeper layers of the skin, specifically the subcutaneous or superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) layers. These layers provide support and structure to the skin, and injecting Profhilo at this depth helps stimulate collagen and elastin production, resulting in a lifting and tightening effect.

The amount of Profhilo injected can vary depending on the individual’s specific needs and the areas being treated. Typically, a treatment course consists of two sessions, with a four-week interval between them. During each session, five injection points are commonly used on each side of the face. The total amount injected may vary, but it is usually around 2 milliliters for the entire treatment course.

The cost of Profhilo injections can vary depending on several factors, including the geographic location, the expertise of the medical professional performing the treatment, the number of sessions required, and any additional treatments combined with Profhilo.

Profhilo is typically injected into specific areas of the face, including the cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds (smile lines), chin, and jawline. It can also be used on the neck and hands to improve skin quality in those areas. The injections are strategically placed to ensure even distribution of the product and to target areas of concern for optimal results.

Profhilo injections are not commonly performed in the forehead area. This treatment is primarily intended for areas with skin laxity and dehydration, and the forehead typically requires different treatment modalities for addressing concerns such as wrinkles or frown lines.

The safety of Profhilo injections during pregnancy has not been established, and it is generally recommended to avoid elective cosmetic procedures during pregnancy.

Profhilo injections are generally well-tolerated and relatively comfortable for most individuals. The needles used for the injections are typically very fine, minimizing discomfort during the procedure. Some individuals may experience mild stinging or a slight sensation during the injections, but any discomfort is usually temporary. Topical anesthetics or numbing creams may be applied prior to the treatment to further enhance comfort, if needed.

Profhilo has been extensively studied and is considered a safe treatment when administered by a qualified and experienced healthcare professional. As with any medical procedure, there can be potential risks and side effects, although they are generally mild and temporary. Common side effects may include redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection sites, which typically resolve within a few days.
