What Age Should I Start Getting Botox?
People who express interest in Botox or anti wrinkle injections are often told that they are too young to begin receiving injectable treatments. It is generally assumed that anti wrinkle treatments are for older people who are already experiencing the signs of ageing. However, the truth is that it’s a personal choice, and completely different for everyone depending on a variety of factors, including genetics, lifestyle factors and sun damage.
Uses of Botox
However, Botox is not only used to prevent fine lines and wrinkles. More and more people are seeking anti wrinkle injections to help them with other aesthetic concerns, such as a gummy smile or heavy eyebrows. Botox can also be used in a medical context for issues such as bruxism (teeth grinding) or Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in the hands, underarms or even on the soles of your feet.
For the most part though, our patients at Amara are often seeking preventative anti wrinkle treatments for a variety of reasons. For example, a person who has never used SPF to protect their skin on their face will experience the effects of ageing much earlier than someone who uses it regularly, and therefore they may wish to start treatment for wrinkles at an earlier point than others.
Who Are Anti Wrinkle Injections For?
Of course, Botox and anti wrinkle injectables are not suitable for those under 18, but generally speaking the treatment is not necessary for those under 25. However, many people in their early twenties decide to receive treatment to prevent the formation of deep wrinkles and fine lines. It is more difficult for wrinkles to form on the face if preventative anti wrinkle injections are used, particularly in the forehead and worry lines where lines tend to first appear.
Although wrinkle formation before the age of 25 are not common, they are also not unheard of. Many of our patients at Amara have come to us with concerns early on as many different things can contribute to wrinkles, such as genetics, stress levels and general lifestyle habits.
How Long Do Anti Wrinkle Injections Last?
Luckily, Botox and dermal fillers are not permanent, and will wear off over time with no side effects. Anti wrinkle injections tend to last for about four months on average, so if you decide that the result isn’t for you, it won’t last forever!
Research Your Practitioner
It is important to research your practitioner before you decide to go ahead with your first anti wrinkle treatment, as the last thing you want is a completely frozen and unnatural look. It is also important to make sure that the person injecting you is either a medical doctor or a dentist. No other person is legally allowed to administer Botox injections. Also make sure to read any reviews you can find. After careful consideration, you should arrange a consultation with your doctor in order to discuss what results you are looking for and what is realistic in terms of achievements. You should never feel pressured to have anything done that you aren’t sure about, and given the opportunity to ask any questions you might have.
